Automatic Mailing List Filtering

When I subscribe to a mailing list, I want its mail automatically filtered to a separate inbox. When I write mail to the list, I want replies and follow-ups in the same conversation delivered to my primary inbox. I want my mail reader to just do the filtering for all my lists for me, without any additional configuration or action on my part other than subscribing to the list.

Can Gmail or Outlook for Mac, or some other mail reader do that?
